The long-awaited sophomore release and depth-defying sequel to his cult-status 2012 debut, Totally You's "Chilltown USA" is finally here! Izak Arida, who is a full-time member of legendary lo-fi pop princes The Memories, as well as singer/songwriter/guitarist of garage pop punk duo BOOM! (with longtime friend Chris Scott of Guantanamo Baywatch), Izak is a quintessential member of the Gnar Tapes collective, a group whose individual members are renowned for their prolific and high-quality output of music and art.
Born and raised in Southern California as a 1st generation American boy by Filipino parents, Izak moved to Portland, Oregon in September 2008 in one of the most beautiful Indian Summers on record. He quickly became friends with a popular new local band, White Fang, who had just started their own cassette label in the basement of their house.
Years later in 2012 Izak put out his first "lo-fi pop" tape on Gnar Tapes under the name Totally You. The tape was called "Chilltown USA" and it helped define the "lo-fi pop" sound that Gnar was becoming known for and became an instant cult classic.
The long awaited follow-up "Coconut Heaven" is indeed heavenly (as the title suggests) and is everything you liked about the first one, but more. Don't think for a second that these celebratory slacker symphonies are slacking or lacking; the only reason this took so long to come out is because he's been touring and recording nonstop with his band The Memories since (and before the last one.) Living the lifestyle.
Split release with Chicago's Tripp Tapes, run by like-minded maestro, peer, and fan James Swanberg of Today's Hits and The Lemons.
