about

The Memories 3rd LP is called "Touched By An Angel" and it is their folkiest, breeziest yet. It's hard to determine how many albums they've done. There was the wistful, enchanting, lo-fi/oldies-inspired self title first album that came out on tape on Gnar Tapes first then came out on LP on Underwater Peoples and then Burger Records became fans and reissued the first album on tape again. Then there was the playful goofiness/amateurish bedroom-fi pop savant-ness of "Love Is The Law" which was written during and right after the first album and then came out on tape on Burger then on LP a little while later, then Burger did the "Rainy Day" tape which was a dreamy, watery little pop nugget, which was followed by the like-minded but darker "Breezy Evening" which was released on tape by Burger and Gnar. Then the folksy, straight-faced tearjerker "Ripple" came out on cassette via Gnar and Rad Records (headed by the mysterious and legendary Kyle Field of Little Wings fame) and that sold out instantly. Then a little label in Chicago called Randy Records did their first 7" called "American Summer" and that was pure sunshine pop, for sure. Then OSR Tapes of Brattleboro, VT (fronted by Zach Phillips of Blanche Blanche Blanche (RIP) fame) released the 4-song "Crash On My Heart" tape which showcased more of Izak's music writing, while also lending a Kyle instrumental, and a Kyle/Rikky combo. Somewhere in there was a secret blue tape with no cover, a retardedly limited edition cassingle, and another retardedly limited edition tape of instrumentals, plus a CDR, a digital release, and some compilation appearances. And an official Velvet Underground tribute, can't forget that. Now here is "Touched By An Angel" and it's great. Is it an album? Is it an EP? Who knows. What we do know is that it sounds real good and how nice was it for Lolipop Records to press this baby to vinyl? That rules. - Beverly Beverage, The Mangos
